The Hindu, Saturday, June, 19 2010 KALPETTA: ‘Splash 2010', a three-day monsoon carnival organised by the Wayanad Tourism Organisation (WTO), a body of property owners in the district, in association with the Department of Tourism, District Administration and the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), will be held in the district from July 9, 2010.

The Eco huts constructed by the forest department at Muthanga in the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary are getting ready to tap the tourism potential of the district.
As many as six eco cottages have been built by the forest department, to woo the nature enthusiasts, at a cost of Rs.14 lakh under the Muthanga Eco- Tourism project. As part of the project, the old forest Inspection Bungalow (Serambi) and elephant feeding centre have been renovated. |

If you haven’t heard of Wayanad, or if you have and can’t place it, don’t blame yourself. Blame it on Kalpetta, the district headquarters. Unlike Kerala’s other well-behaved district headquarters such as Kasargod, Kannur, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam, this one is not named after the district.
